Dragon Quest 12 Development Restarts, Protagonist and Storyline Completely Rebuilt

IT Home news on May 27 — Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest 12 development has been restarted, and the game will be released under the title Dragon Quest 12: The Other Side of Dreams.

When Dragon Quest 12 was first revealed, its title was Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate. After this restart, both the game's protagonist and storyline are completely different from the originally announced version.

SE originally revealed five new Dragon Quest games in 2021, and Dragon Quest 12 was one of them. Last year, series creator Yuji Horii stated that Dragon Quest 12 was still in active development, with plans to reveal more information gradually.

According to IT Home, in addition to Dragon Quest 12: The Other Side of Dreams, SE also announced that Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World will be coming to Nintendo Switch 1/2.

SE also announced that Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition will be released for Switch 2 on September 24, 2026, and this version does not support direct upgrading from the original Dragon Quest 11.
