"Sekiro: No Defeat" Anime Film Trailer Released, Premiering September 4th

IT Home News, June 26 — The official trailer for "SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT," a theatrical anime adaptation of FromSoftware's acclaimed game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, has been unveiled. The film is set to premiere on September 4, 2026.

Along with the trailer, the official release also shared the film's synopsis and details about its key production staff.

The animation is produced by Qzil.la, with Kadokawa and Arch jointly handling planning and production. The director is Kenichi Kutsuna, marking his feature-length anime directorial debut; the screenplay is written by Takuya Sato, character design by Takahiro Kishida, and music by Jinta Hasunuma. FromSoftware has also participated in the film's production.

The voice actor lineup continues the original game's cast — Wolf is voiced by Daisuke Namikawa, Kuro by Miyuki Sato, and Genichiro Ashina by Kenjiro Tsuda. Additionally, the voice actors for the Sculptor, Emma, Hanbei, Owl, and Isshin Ashina are also the original game's cast members. The film is rated PG-12.

The film's theme song features "Blu" by the late music master Ryuichi Sakamoto, included in his album "The Best of 'Playing the Orchestra 2014'."

Furthermore, the film has been selected for the "Midnight Special" section of the 2026 Annecy International Animated Film Festival, as well as the "Animation Plus" section of the Fantasia International Film Festival.

Set in the fictional land of "Ashina" during the late Sengoku period of Japan, "SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT" tells the story of the one-armed shinobi "Wolf" as he embarks on a journey of life and death to protect his lord, "Kuro." The film is produced with entirely hand-drawn 2D animation. The official key visual for the theatrical release is accompanied by the tagline: "Together. To live, and to die.".
