Steam Controller Shipping Mishap: Valve Gives Away Free Games Like Forza Horizon 6 as Compensation, Gamers Praise the Move
Due to a Steam Controller shipping error, Valve has decided to give all affected users any standard edition game for free as compensation, with most players choosing Forza Horizon 6. The move has received widespread praise in the gaming community.
IT Home reported on May 17 that due to a Steam Controller shipping mishap, Valve has decided to give all affected users any standard edition game for free as compensation, with most players choosing Forza Horizon 6. The move has received widespread praise in the gaming community.
According to player feedback and official confirmation from Valve, the shipping issue was caused by a misoperation by European logistics company GLS. A batch of new Steam Controllers priced at $99 (IT Home note: approximately 675.8 RMB at current exchange rates) was incorrectly shipped to the UK (original delivery addresses included Hungary, Romania, and other locations).
Valve stated in an apology email sent to affected users: "The carrier has informed us that a small number of packages were incorrectly redirected to the UK. They are working to resend your package to the delivery address you provided. Thank you for your patience."
Along with the apology, Valve offered substantial compensation: "To thank you for your patience, we would like to add a game to your library. Please choose any standard edition game available for purchase in your region and let us know your selection in your reply."
Undoubtedly, the upcoming Forza Horizon 6 quickly became the most popular choice in the gaming community. The standard edition of the game will launch on May 19, priced at 69.99 euros (approximately 555.3 RMB at current exchange rates) for European players.
"To be honest, I chose it too. At this price for Forza Horizon 6, I wouldn't normally buy it myself, and it looks really cool," said a Reddit user. Another user commented: "Haha, me too. I bet everyone's choosing this game."
Some Reddit users described Valve's move as a perfect embodiment of the "the customer is always right" attitude, commenting: "Valve seems to be one of the few companies that truly understands this principle: as long as you treat your customers with basic respect and understanding, the money you lose by giving them free games will build a kind of loyalty, and in the long run, they will spend more money with you because of it."
